Volunteer

​

Parental involvement is critical to the support of our school.  Parents are often found throughout the school, reading in the class, setting up for classroom events, chaperoning field trips, and helping to organize schoolwide activities.  Parent participation enhances the school community and brings our families closer together with the school.  Examples of volunteer opportunities include:

 

• Soliciting donations for the school auction

• Reading a story to the class

• Organizing craft supplies for the Chanukah Family Workshop

• Cleanup after classroom parties

• Sharing a talent or profession with the class. Past visits by parents have included musicians demonstrating their instruments and dentists teaching the children about toothbrushing 

• Decorating banquet hall for annual Intergenerational Dinner

Annual School Auction

 

Yaldaynu hosts a silent auction through the Bidding for Good website to raise money to support our arts, music, and enrichment programs.  Parents work to solicit donations from local businesses, as well as exciting New York City experiences.  The money raised through our auction funds the high quality art supplies our children use, the music programming the children experience several times a week, as well as many other aspects of the students’ enrichment.  We encourage all families and their friends to support the auction both by soliciting donations and bidding on the great available items.

Annual Intergenerational Dinner

​

Every Spring, Yaldaynu hosts our Intergenerational Dinner.  Members of the extended Yaldaynu family, including current families, grandparents, alumni, and community members, join together to honor an individual or a group who have made a significant contribution to the Yaldaynu community.  Past honorees have included the founders of the school and retiring faculty.  The Dinner provides an opportunity for the community to celebrate the contributions of the honoree, as well as further support the mission of Yaldaynu through generous donations.

Yaldaynu seeks to remain the vibrant, inclusive community it has been for over 35 years.  Like most independent schools, tuition alone does not cover the entirety of the school’s operating expenses.  In order for us to continue to offer the same high quality education in a child and family-centered neighborhood school in changing times, we must look beyond our tuition dollars to our families, former families, and friends for additional support.  The monies raised will allow us to continue to offer the same nurturing, play-based programming as we prepare for the future of Yaldaynu education.
